Thoroughbreds that have raced, or have been trained as racehorses, can become successful mounts for the show ring, the hunt field, or simply as trail and pleasure horses. Many Off-the-Track Thoroughbreds, or OTTBs, have gone on to become winners in the hunter and jumper divisions, and two of our favorite lesson horses are former racehorses!

Retraining OTTBs for show or pleasure riding presents some unique challenges. However, with the right training, and time, many of these horses can find new jobs and become wonderful mounts for amateur and junior riders.

Stone Bridge Farm offers specialized training services and clinics to help OTTB owners retrain their horses as show or pleasure horses. Daily turnout, grooming and handling, as well as individualized nutrition programs, promote confidence, trust and quietness. And, most importantly, our staff is experienced in working with horses coming off the track. Because we understand the initial training they received as racehorses, we also understand the retraining they need to become riding horses.

To help promote OTTBs as show horses, Stone Bridge Farm Horse Shows also offers a hunter division specifically for ex-racehorses. These classes are designed to provide an inviting venue for owners to get their horses accustomed to the show ring, and have become very popular. The division consists of two classes over fences 2'6" in height, and an under saddle class, with high point awards at the end of the series.
